AVONMORE REAL ESTATE

Avonmore is a predominantly residential neighbourhood. For the most part it was developed during the 1950s, with the dominant structure type in the neighbourhood being the single-family house. Neighbourhood commercial outlets serve residents’ convenience needs, but additional businesses and services are located at the nearby Bonnie Doon Mall.

The neighbourhood is bordered on the east and southeast by major arterials and on the north by a collector roadway. A prominent physical feature of the neighbourhood is its western boundary, Mill Creek Ravine. The ravine connects to the North Saskatchewan River Valley park system and affords residents excellent recreational opportunities.

The neighbourhood is named after Algernon William Yelverton, Viscount Avonmore, an Irish priest and adventurer who stopped in Edmonton en route to an 1887 gold rush expedition in the Klondike.
